Sicknotes, or “Fitnotes” can be used not just to say what you can’t do, but also to show what activities you ARE able to carry out.
If your doctor gives you a note, you may or may not need to continue receiving them for some time. It is not usually necessary to book a face to face appointment to request a repeat note.
They can be backdated, but cannot be postdated. For this reason, please do not request a continuation of your sick note more than 72 hrs before your current note runs out.
You can use e-Consult to request a repeat sicknote. Requests take 72 hours to process so please bear this in mind before attempting to collect.
Fitnotes for Coronavirus self isolation
The current Government Guidance for employers and businesses on coronavirus (COVID-19) states;
“By law, medical evidence is not required for the first 7 days of sickness. After 7 days, employers may use their discretion around the need for medical evidence if an employee is staying at home.
We strongly suggest that employers use their discretion around the need for medical evidence for a period of absence where an employee is advised to stay at home either as they are unwell themselves, or live with someone who is, in accordance with the public health advices issued by the government.”
We suggest patients download the attached letter and give to their employer as at the current time the practice will not be providing medical certification in relation to self-isolation for coronavirus.
